Joe Hurt. Beloved father of Jennifer (Christopher) Hicks. Cherished Papaw of Alisha Lowenstein, Taylor (James) Ross and Kayla (Kevin) Cannon. Adored great grandpa of Joseph James Ross & Isaac Liam Ayres. Loving brother of Steve (Debbie) Hurt, Betty (the late Ed) Greene & Dan (April) Hurt. Caring son of the late Arvol Hurt & Maureen Isaacs (nee Johnson). Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles.
Joe was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His journey was marked by steadfast devotion to those he loved most, and his presence brought comfort, laughter, and steadiness to his family. Joe’s legacy is carried forward by those whose lives he touched most deeply. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Jennifer, who held a special place in Joe’s heart and was a source of immense pride. His granddaughters—Alisha, Taylor, and Kayla—will remember his gentle encouragement and the quiet wisdom he shared during moments both ordinary and extraordinary. The bond continues through his great-grandsons, Joseph and Isaac, who will grow up guided by the values and love their great-grandfather so generously bestowed.
Joe’s life was also marked by the enduring support of his siblings. His brother Steve, sister Betty, and brother Dan grieve the loss of not just a brother but also a lifelong confidant—a man whose laughter and kindness enriched every family gathering.
Like his father Arvol, Joe carried on the love of racing and the legacy, being an integral part of the Hurt Family Racing Team, #96. Joe was also the former owner of Joe’s Norwood Auto, (351-JOES)
Joe would always put others first, no matter what and he always managed to leave you with a life lesson. His creativity has been seen by many, either through his works of art, his mechanical hands, or remodeling skills. Joe was a serious jokester, but also witty and kind hearted. He will be missed by many, but surely not forgotten.
