Hausfeld, Shirley Louise (née Meyer) passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, after receiving a final blessing from her brother-in-law, Fr. Bryant Hausfeld, OFM while surrounded by loving family.
After an extended hospital stay in 2023, Shirley faced several health challenges. By the grace of God, the support of her children and grandchildren and notably, the devotion of her daughter Patty, who lived with her and provided full-time care, she was given the gift of leaving this world exactly as she wished: in the comfort of her cherished home in St. Bernard.
It was in that brick home, in St. Bernard, that she and her late husband, Jack Hausfeld, raised their seven children and built a life enriched with love, faith, and enduring memories. That home, which was often bursting with laughter, shared stories and the spirit of family, remained her sanctuary until the very end.
Shirley was born on October 13, 1935, to Louis G. & Margaret Mary Meyer and grew up on the westside of Cincinnati. During WWII, her father enlisted in the Marines which prompted the family to move to San Diego, California. It was there she developed her lifelong love of the ocean, southwestern décor, seashells and carousels. After the war, the family returned to their beloved “West Side” in Cincinnati where Shirley spent her days fishing with her dad and playing sports, especially softball. She graduated from Western Hills High School, where her athleticism and spirited nature shined bright.
It was after a softball game in 1958, during a stop at Saratoga Bar in Clifton with her teammates, that she met a kind Roger Bacon man named Jack Hausfeld. As they say, the rest was history. The two were married on November 26, 1959 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Shirley devoted the majority of her life to raising her seven children, and later her many grandchildren, a role she embraced with unwavering love and dedication. In 1980 she began a new chapter as a beloved lunch lady at Roger Bacon High School, where her warm smile and delicious food made her a favorite among students and staff alike.
She is survived by her seven children: Tom (Kitty) Hausfeld, Ron (Beth) Hausfeld, Pam Moeller, Don (Coleen) Hausfeld, Bob (Tara) Hausfeld, Patty Hausfeld, and Jay (Mel) Hausfeld. Shirley was married to the love of her life, Jack Hausfeld, for 45 wonderful years and together they built a legacy of love and family.
She leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild—each of whom carries a piece of her heart forward into the world.
The family cannot thank Grace Hospice and the St. Bernard Fire Department enough for all their care and support, especially these last 3 years!
Visitation will be held Friday, October 24 from 9-11AM at Holy Trinity Church, 2420 Drex Ave, Norwood, Ohio, 45212, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM.
