Albert James Carnevale

Albert James Carnevale (1945-2022) passed away last week, leaving the world with a little less laughter, and a lot less wit. Known by many names – Dad, Al, Tony, Dubba, Big Grandpa, Unca – Al was charming, cheeky, and engaging. He was a devoted father to Alison and Rebecca, father-in-law to Alan and Ian, and proud grandad to Elise, Finn, Evelyn, and Henry. He is survived by his sister Michelle, sister-in-law Penny, and nieces and nephews Cassie, Don, Joey, and Valerie and preceded in death by his brother Mark.

Born in Nashua, NH to Agnes (Britton) and Joseph Carnevale, he grew up in Texas and Kansas before his family settled in Boston’s North Shore. Like his father, and brother Mark, Al was a GE company man, spending his career at GE, first in Lynn, Massachusetts, and eventually to Evendale, Ohio where he and former spouse Donna raised their family. He was a member of the National Property Management Association and enjoyed bringing his family along to conferences to explore the country; he was a devoted sports fan, always cheering for the underdog and celebrating the integrity and comradery that sports can foster. To the bafflement of his daughters, he was an avid NASCAR fan, and his Chrysler 300 was his chrome-lined delight.

Al was both a charmer and a dissenter, a man who loved to make people laugh and to push them to think critically about their positions. Above all, he was a generous, loyal, warm father and grandfather. We will miss him every day.

If you would like to honour Al, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
