Brenda (Burgess) Thompson

Brenda Thompson (nee Burgess), born July 4, 1933, passed away peacefully in her home on December 13, 2023 at age 90. Brenda was the cherished daughter of the late George and Mildred (nee Blakemore) Burgess, loving wife of the late Hayward Thompson, devoted Mother to Russell Howard (Ruth), Melody Dawn, and the late David Earl. Beloved Grandmother to 7 grand-children, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a dear friend to many. Brenda was a kind, loving, and nurturing woman who was adored by all who knew her. Born and raised in Lowton, Lancashire, England, Brenda met her beloved husband while he was stationed in England with the US Air Force and ultimately moved to America to raise her family. She loved her community and her neighbors. Brenda was the first president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Norwood Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #449 where she and her husband were members for many years. Brenda devoted her life to caring for the children of her family, ensuring that four generations developed a strong sense of tradition and a love for the arts. She loved to spend her summers on the river, watching birds and fishing with her grandchildren. Brenda loved to dance, knit, sew, cook and above all spend quality time with her loved ones. Brenda lived a full and happy life and will be greatly missed. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date, per Brenda's request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
