Floyd Garland

Floyd R Garland, 84 of Norwood, Ohio, passed away April 20, 2022 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was born November 29, 1937 at Arjay, Kentucky,  cherished son of the late Rev. William “Bill” Garland and Bessie Storms Garland.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Inman and Juanita Donaldson; brothers, Delbert Garland, Billy Garland, James Garland, and Kenneth Garland.  

Survivors include his wife, Wilma (Hubbard) Garland of 58 years, Norwood, OH; one brother, Tommy Garland (Charlotte) Pineville, KY; sisters June Burnette (Melvin) Morristown,TN, Charlotte Rice (Bob) Indianapolis, IN and Stella Garland, Pineville, KY.  Caring uncle of Kenny Lynn Garland.  Also survived by many other nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was a Christian and a member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood, OH.  Floyd gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ on Sunday October 25, 1970 at Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood, Ohio.  He and Wilma went to church at Grace until joining New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood, Ohio about 20 years ago. 

Floyd loved fishing, hunting, and sports.  He and his wife Wilma fished and waded the creeks in KY when they were dating.  He was known for his quick wit and kept people who knew him laughing all the time.  Wilma was Floyd’s life, and he was her life, a match made in heaven.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday April 30, 2022 at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, 2417 Indian Mound Avenue, Norwood, OH, visitation 12-2 p.m., with Rev. Mike Raines presiding.  Music will be provided by church members and choir.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 10209 Plainfield Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, Blue Ash on Monday May 2, 2022 at 12 noon.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers Tommy Garland, Bob Rice, Melvin Burnette, Mike Redmond, Verlin Jordan, Jim Lewis, Mark Carter, Gary Miller, Lawrence Rowlett, Jr., Howard Daniels, Wayne Grace, Ivan Grace, Dr. Edward Chang, Christ Hospital Cardiology Group and nursing staff.
