Thomas Woodford Huitema

April 26, 1952 ~ October 28, 2021 (age 69)

Thomas "Tom" Huitema passed away on Oct. 28th.  He was the son of the late John and Mary Huitema, and he was preceded in death by his brother, Jake (Sharon).  He is survived by his loving wife, Ashley, as well as by his sisters, Lucinda (Dennis) and Betty (Brian), his uncle, Walter (Darlene),  his cousin, Anne, and by seven nieces and nephews.

Tom was a prolific inventor with approximately 100 U.S patents and hundreds more abroad.  The products he invented enabled people to grow food, to build necessary structures, to control jets and to perform critical surgeries.  For his work, he was the recipient of both The Johnson Medal and The President's Award.  He is on The Inventor Hall of Fame.

In addition to his patents, Tom had eclectic interests.  He was an avid fisherman who loved animals and nature, as well as science, mechanisms, art, classical music and fiction.  Still, his overriding interest was in helping others.  He was a kind soul who was well liked by many.  He was always well-intentioned. He was proud of his patents, because they made a difference to so many people.  Tom spent his life doing what he could to make the world a better place.

There will be no service, because of Covid.  In lieu of flowers, those who would like are welcome to make a donation in Tom's memory to the church of his youth, Solomon Creek United Methodist Church. The church would put donations to good use caring for needy families in the community.  Donations may be sent to:
